This year Odhran Fox-Turley was the well-deserving recipient of the Br Lynam bursary receiving a cheque for £1000 which will help him continue his studies.
Br Lynam was an outstanding mathematician and taught in St Mary’s during the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s.
After teaching in Omagh, Derry and Abbey CBS, Newry where he was headmaster, he moved to St Mary’s CBGS in 1977 and remained there for the rest of his career teaching mostly A-Level Maths. Br Lynam made a lasting impression on all his students at St Mary’s and it’s appropriate that a member of the alumni has now recognised the contribution Br Lynam made to so many lives. Br Lynam died in October 2001 after a long illness.
The Br Lynam award is being funded by a generous donation from a St Mary’s alumnus, with the award being presented to the top performing A-level maths student. Odhran worked hard and his efforts truly paid off as he achieved three A* grades in Maths, Chemistry and Biology. Odhran has started his degree at Newcastle University in Medicine.
The Br Lynam Award is sponsored by a successful past pupil who is forever grateful for the time and effort of the teachers in St Mary’s during his time at the school . The Br Lynam award is now in its 4th year .
