Course Outline<\/h3>\n \nA full A level in Spanish is comprised of two \u2018AS\u2019 modules<\/strong> (Year 1) and two \u2018A2\u2019 modules<\/strong> (Year 2).<\/li>\nThe A level GCE award will be based on the total marks from AS (40% of total A Level) and A2 (60% of total A Level).<\/li>\n The AS can be taken as a \u2018stand-alone\u2019 qualification without progression to A2.<\/li>\n All AS and A2 students have weekly conversation and grammar classes with our Spanish assistant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nTopics studied at AS Level include:<\/h4>\nRelationships:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\ndifferent family structures<\/li>\n roles, responsibilities and relationships within families<\/li>\n challenges for families<\/li>\n inter-generational issues<\/li>\n influences on young people such as peers, family and friends.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nCulture and Lifestyle:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\nphysical well-being<\/li>\n risk-taking behaviour<\/li>\n dealing with stress and challenges<\/li>\n hobbies and interests<\/li>\n the arts, film and design<\/li>\n social media and new technology<\/li>\n holidays, festivals and tourism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nTopics studied at A2 Level include:<\/h4>\nYoung People and Society:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\npart-time jobs<\/li>\n education and employment<\/li>\n career planning and aspirations<\/li>\n young people and democracy<\/li>\n the advantages, disadvantages and opportunities of European citizenship<\/li>\n young people and societal attitudes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nOur Place in a Changing World:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\u00a0equality, inequality, discrimination and prejudice<\/li>\n poverty at home and abroad<\/li>\n immigration and emigration<\/li>\n multicultural society and cultural identity<\/li>\n causes, consequences and resolution of conflict<\/li>\n sustainable living and environmental issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n \n Assessment<\/h3>\n AS Assessment<\/strong><\/p>\nAS 1: Speaking – 30% of total AS Level \/ 12% of total A Level<\/p>\n

Section A \u2013 Listening <\/strong><\/p>\nTwo sets of questions based on two discrete passages recorded on disk. (40 minutes)<\/p>\n
Section B \u2013 Reading <\/strong><\/p>\nComprehension questions in Spanish and one Spanish-to-English translation. (50 minutes)<\/p>\n
Section C \u2013 Use of Language<\/strong><\/p>\nShort grammar exercises and short translations from English into Spanish (30 minutes)<\/p>\n
AS 3: Extended Writing <\/strong>30% of total AS Level \/ 12% of total A Level<\/p>\nOne essay in Spanish in response to a set film* or literary text. (1 hour)<\/p>\n
*The chosen film at AS Level is “El Bola” (2000, directed by Achero Ma\u00f1as)<\/p>\n
