\u201cOur mission is to inspire and enable\nchildren to fulfil their potential through music in a creative environment,\nnurturing the unique talents of every individual pupil.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Aims<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Extra-curricular Music<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Music Department offers a\ndiverse range of activities through the week including theory classes,\norchestra, senior and junior Irish traditional groups, junior choir, rock and\nfunk bands, wind ensemble, string ensemble, band workshops and music technology\nworkshops. All pupils who avail of\ninstrumental tuition contribute to the extra-curricular life of the Music\nDepartment as a crucial part of their musical development; building confidence\nand gaining performance experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Performance opportunities\nthroughout the school year include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Workshops in Music technology\nfor Year 9 and 10 pupils, including the use of Garageband and Sibelius, are\ndelivered in the school\u2019s Mac suite. \nThere are also opportunities for junior school pupils to attend band\nensemble workshops to encourage collaborative performance and building ensemble\nskills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Music Tuition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Instrumental lessons in St.\nMary\u2019s are delivered by a very talented team of peripatetic staff. All pupils are encouraged to learn a musical\ninstrument from the moment they start at the school. Around 120 boys take a wide variety of\ninstrumental lessons including violin, viola, cello, electric guitar, bass\nguitar, acoustic guitar, tin whistle, bodhran, accordion, Irish flute, Irish\nfiddle, piano, clarinet, flute, saxophone, drums and DJing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Music Department enters\npupils for Associated Board and Rock School examinations.
