Today is the feast day of Blessed Edmund Rice, the founder of the Christian Brothers. Edmund Rice devoted his life to rectifying social injustices, particularly within the education system. He worked tirelessly to ensure that poor Irish children received an education in spite of the penal law system which outlawed this.
Our Year 8 students spent several weeks learning about Edmund Rice and consolidated this learning by producing an individual project on the life of Edmund Rice. Two students from each class were then selected by their RE teachers to enjoy an overnight trip to Callan, Co. Kilkenny, which is Edmund’s place of birth.
Unfortunately, the unprecedented circumstances we now face mean that the planned trip in the summer term cannot go ahead. Upon our return to school the 14 project winners will be suitably celebrated and rewarded for their fantastic work.
In the meantime, enjoy browsing through a selection of images from some of the winning projects, as well as some others which deserve credit for such fantastic effort.
