Dear Parent/Guardian

I am writing to introduce myself as the new Principal of St Mary’s CBGS. I have spent the last three years working as a Vice Principal and seven years prior to this as Assistant Vice Principal in a neighbouring school. I am extremely privileged to have been appointed as Principal. I have been fortunate to have been invited to spend a significant amount of time at St Mary’s in Term 1 getting to know the staff and boys.

I would like to pay tribute to Mrs Fiona Crookes who held the position of Interim Principal since mid-term and did a great job. Also I have been grateful to the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Department, teachers and support staff for the welcome I have received. I am extremely impressed by the young men of St Mary’s and how proud they are of their school. Indeed their determination to work hard and achieve success has been evident during my visits from September.

The staff of St Mary’s are dedicated and committed to the boys. They have high expectations of our students in terms of attitude, behaviour and achievement. I look forward to getting to know our students and watching them progress towards success and leave us as well qualified young men.

As I begin my role I would value your continued support to St Mary’s, making sure your son attends school punctually every day, in full uniform and engages fully in his learning. As you are aware this term is particularly busy in school, it is therefore important that your son is working hard. Your support with home study is appreciated.

I look forward to working in partnership with you and your son.

Yours sincerely

Siobhan Kelly (Mrs)

PRINCIPAL

On behalf of the Board of Governors of St Marys may I offer our sincere condolences to Mrs Donegan and her family.

We especially have in our thoughts and prayers young Jamie, and the terrible loss he has suffered.

We would like to thank Mrs Crookes, our Principal and all our wonderful staff who in the most difficult of circumstances provided leadership, guidance and support to protect our boys during this tragic event.

We would also like to thank our parents for their kind words and offers of support to the St Marys family during the unfolding of the tragedy. It is very much appreciated.

Sean Mahon

Chair of the Board of Governors

The thoughts and prayers of the Principal and all the staff are with our pupil and his family at this very sad time.

Congratulations to Mr Herron, Dylan Magee and Luke Gilgunn who have been shortlisted in the final of Belfast Media Group’s ‘Inspirational Youth of the West Awards 2018’.

This is a fantastic accolade for the school and testament to the contribution the school staff and students make to the local community.

It would be great for the school community to drive this forward and get voting for Mr Herron (Inspirational Secondary School Teacher), Dylan Magee (Inspirational Up and Coming Sports Star) and Luke Gilgunn (Inspirational Boys Basketball player) via the link below.

This is a great opportunity to showcase the contribution our staff students make outside of the classroom and give them the recognition they deserve.

You can vote every day until 2nd November and the winner will be announced on the 9th November.

Please share this post far and wide and don’t forget to vote every day.

AMAZING BRAINS YEAR 11 WORKSHOP

Our Year 11 students had their final session in the 'Ultimate Study System Training today with Paul from Amazing Brains.

The boys were given a fantastic pack of resources and Paul took them through strategies for using the resources to best maximise their study. The English department were on hand throughout to apply their skills to the English Language syllabus.

Well done to all involved.
