PTA Defibrilator Fundraising Quiz

15th October 2018

On Friday 28th September St. Mary’s CBGS PTFA held their annual quiz in the school assembly hall.

Eight quiz teams assembled on a Friday evening to raise funds for an outdoor secure unit for our recently acquired school defibrillator, presented to the school by Sport NI.

Popular quiz master Mr McDonnell provided plenty of humour on the evening and was assisted on stage by Mr Herron, who welcomed all assembled guests.

‘Wingnuts’ edged in front in the first general knowledge round of the evening – though a hastily assembled staff team called ‘The Miscreants’ demonstrated an excellent knowledge of music themes to displace ‘The Wingnuts’.

The aforementioned duo were tied with ‘The Sleeping Beauties’ who, contrary to their name, were very much awake during the Film and TV round and the Dingbats round was edged by ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’ ahead of the ‘B Team’.

The tension was palpable as the Sport round took centre stage before the midway point in proceedings – none of the eight sides covered themselves in glory as the creator of the sport round was heckled for a rather suspect array of questions.

At the midway point ‘The Miscreants’ had their noses in front, though lost ground on the ‘History’ round as ‘Wingnuts’ closed the gap – scoring 10 out of 10 along with the ‘The Sleeping Beauties’ who were far from living up to their name.

‘The Sleeping Beauties’ and ‘The B Team’ shared top spot in the Audio and Music round – whilst at the top of the standings – ‘The Miscreants’ and ‘Wingnuts’ were now neck and neck with two rounds remaining.

The second general knowledge round would prove decisive as ‘Wingnuts’ regained the lead they held on the first general knowledge round – scoring full marks along with the ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’.

It was a lead they failed to relinquish and in the end ‘Wingnuts’ were quiz winners – with ‘The Miscreants’ punished for their errors in the second half.

Third place saw a tie-break between ‘The Sleeping Beauties’ and the ‘No Brainers’ – in order to settle on third, the two groups agreed to a sing-off rather than the suggested dance-off and it was ‘The Sleeping Beauties’ who took third with a perfect rendition of Labi Siffre ‘Something Inside So Strong’.

The quiz once again proved to be another fantastic evening of craic, laughs and entertainment and we thank everyone who took time to come and along and contributed towards our aim of securing an outdoor defibrillator unit.

The PTFA would like to acknowledge everyone who contributed a prize for the event including;
