A Level success for St Mary’s

For the sixth successive year, St Mary’s Christian Brothers’ Grammar School has improved its A Level pass rate with 73% of students achieving three grades at A*-C or equivalent; this represents a significant increase of 10% over a six year period.

Eoghan McKenna was the top performing student, achieving a remarkable 2 A*s and 2 A grades. Eoghan will be studying History at Churchill College, University of Cambridge.

Outstanding results were also secured by Eoin Kearney (4 As), Sean Quinn (A*, 2 As and a B), Christopher Raffo and Jude Reilly (2 A*s and an A), Colm Crothers, Daniel O’Muirigh and Matthew McCusker (A* and 2 As).

Eoin Kearney and Christopher Raffo will attend the University of Edinburgh, reading Masters in Chemistry and Maths respectively. Jude Reilly, Colm Crothers, Daniel O’Muirigh and Matthew McCusker have all accepted places at Queens University Belfast to study a variety of subjects, including Law.

A Triple Distinction Award in BTEC Level 3 Sport was also achieved by Conor Finch, Stephen Erskine, Niall Crossan, John Darragh, Daniel Magee Clarke, Caoimhin Bell, and Cronan Rogers.

The school’s overall A Level performance was very strong, with St Mary’s students achieving a 100% pass rate at grades A* to C in Art & Design, Finance, Drama, Irish, Moving Image Arts, BTEC Sport, Chemistry, French, Music, Physics and Politics.  English, Applied Business, Business Studies and Media were also very successful, with pass rates of over 90% at grades A*-C.  

St Mary’s Principal, Mr. John Martin, expressed his pride in the success of the pupils and their teachers. “These are extremely pleasing results and the school is delighted that our pupils’ hard work and commitment and the support of their parents has been rewarded. I am sure that our A Level pupils, who have contributed greatly to the life of the school community, will now go on to great success in their universities and employment”.
